After watching the film about pop artist,
Ray Johnson, "
How to Draw a Bunny", I became very inspired to find a way to implement some form of Johnson's "correspondence art".
I chose a method of naming my original tracks that incorporates the name of another person (well-known and not)... Sometimes the name reflects influence, humor, or some autobiographical quirk. I named this track as a true
homage to Ricardo... as I'm a big fan. But, I don't really think it sounds like his work. I wasn't trying to imitate.
In this day and age of appropriation of content and Google searches, I figured that maybe, just maybe, some of my tracks might rise above the plethora of digital music options and get a listen based on my idiosyncratic track naming scheme...
Well...........
LOL... I'm happy to report that my strategy has worked in one instance - kind of.
The barely legal or illegal mp3 site, Yourmp3top.com, has listed my track "Ricardo Villalobos Smokes Magical Passes" as an actual Ricardo track - as a part of his catalog. Check it out
here.
The track, produced several years ago, was originally named "Sons of Kings" which is on my "Dave Wesley - Fake ASCII Badass" release on iTunes,
Amazon, Rhapsody, eMusic, etc... and in the
Sursumcorda download store as "Ricardo Villalobos Smokes Magical Passes".
All I can say is that I hope that Ricardo is making some royalties on the track!!! Should I email the site and reveal their mistake? Would they believe me?
